Second Half Propels Titans to Home Win Over Big Blue, 78-62

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Trailing at halftime by two, the No. 24-ranked Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball team outscored Millikin by 18 in the final period to claim a 78-62 win over the Big Blue at the Shirk Center on Wednesday, Jan. 17.

The Titans have won five in a row and improved to 13-3 overall and 6-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while Millikin is 8-8 overall and 1-6 against the league.

Brady Rose scored a game-high 30 points, connecting on 11 of 15 from the field (.733) and making 6 of 10 3-pointers while dishing out six assists. The remainder of the team was 15 of 37 from the field (.405) for a total field goal mark of 26 of 52 (.500).

Sophomore Alex O'Neill had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and sophomore Zach Knobloch came off the bench to score 13 with junior Colin Bonnett adding 11.

Millikin had four players in double figures, led by Zach Fisher with 14. Elijah Henry and Michael Beaty each netted 12 points and DaVante Harrell scored 10. The Big Blue outrebounded the Titans 35-27 with 13 coming on the offensive glass. Millikin was guilty of 20 turnovers, tying Fontbonne for the most against IWU this season, with Illinois Wesleyan admitting to 12 miscues.

Millikin built up a four-point lead at 43-39 two minutes into the second half before Illinois Wesleyan reeled off 11 straight points to get a 50-43 lead with 13:26 left to play. Millikin got no closer than three points (50-47, 11:55) the rest of the way in the game featured eight ties and eight lead changes.

LATE START: The start of the game was delayed 32 minutes due to a complete rim replacement when it was discovered pregame that the east-end Shirk Center basket standard was cracked and had become loose.

What's Next?
Illinois Wesleyan travels to Waukesha, Wis., to meet the Carroll Pioneers in a 4 p.m. game on Saturday, Jan. 20 ... The Pioneers are 5-11 overall and 1-6 in the CCIW after a 68-49 home win over North Park on Wednesday.
