No. 20 Titan Football Team Shuts Out North Park, 18-0

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The No. 20-ranked Illinois Wesleyan football team turned in its first shutout since 2011 with an 18-0 win over North Park at Tucci Stadium on "Family Weekend" Saturday, Sept. 23.

The Titans improved to 3-1 and 1-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Vikings are 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the CCIW.

The last IWU shutout was Sept. 17, 2011, in a 28-0 home win over Aurora, just two weeks after a season-opening 35-0 shutout of Hope (Sept. 3, 2011).

Illinois Wesleyan amassed 428 yards of total offense, 267 passing and 161 rushing, compared to 100 for the Vikings, 80 passing and 20 rushing. IWU had 22 first downs compared to only five for North Park.

Morgan Alexander rushed for 142 yards on 29 carries and sophomore quarterback Brandon Bauer threw for all 267 yards, completing 21 of 30 passes for one TD, a 34-yarder to Alexander. Bauer also rushed for a 4-yard TD as both of IWU's touchdowns came in the first half. Both extra point kicks were also missed along with a 26-yard field goal in the first half.

Patrick Tata took over the kicking duties and nailed two field goals in the second half, a 33-yarder with :03 left in the third quarter, and a 25-yarder with 10:25 left in the game.

Senior linebacker Josh Akin paced the Titans defensively with nine total tackles with senior linebacker Jordan Hassan adding seven. Senior lineman John Nolan had 2 1/2 quarterback sacks as the Titans sacked the Vikings' quarterback Anthony DiNardo five times.

The Titans lost two fumbles and were intercepted once and were flagged 10 times for 107 penalty yards.

What's Next?
Illinois Wesleyan will play at No. 4-ranked Wheaton next Saturday at 1 p.m. at McCully Field. The Thunder were 40-15 winners over Elmhurst on Saturday.
