WHITEWATER, Wis. -- The Illinois Wesleyan women's soccer team defeated Wittenberg University by a final score of 1-0 on Sunday to earn a split at UW-Whitewater's "W" Challenge tournament. A goal from sophomore
Flower Edington in the 18th minute was all the Titans needed to earn a victory over the Tigers.
With a win the Titans improved to 5-2 on the season while Wittenberg fell to 1-3-1 after losing both of their matches in Wisconsin this weekend. Illinois Wesleyan is now 2-2 all-time against the Tigers.
Illinois Wesleyan controlled the pace throughout the game, surrendering just two shots on goal to Wittenberg during the contest. In comparison, the Titans managed nine shots on goal on 15 total shots. IWU also held a 6-2 advantage on corner kicks.
Edington provided all of the offense on Sunday, scoring a goal in the 18th minute off a deflection from the Tiger goalkeeper.
Sophomore
Haley Smith and
Jordan Ellerbrock, as well as freshman
Anna Eager,
Cameron Hindel, and
Megan O'Neal each recorded shots on goal during Sunday's action.
Freshman goalkeeper
Kelli McCarthy earned her fourth shutout of the season needing to make just two saves in the process. Wittenberg goalkeeper Hannah Wilson made eight saves in goal while allowing the goal to Edington.
What's Next?
Illinois Wesleyan is back at home next weekend for a match against University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. The Eagles currently hold a record of 4-0-2 with recent wins over Augustana College (Ill.) and Luther College. This will mark the first ever meeting between the Titans and UWL.
