SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - After winning the opening set, the Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team lost the next three to No. 11 Wittenberg University and fell 3-1 to the Tigers on Friday, Sept. 1, in Wittenberg's National Invitational Tournament in Springfield, Ohio.
The Titans lost by scores of 25-22, 20-25, 22-25, 18-25.
"We had great energy and fight against a very big blocking team," said IWU head coach
Kim Nelson-Brown." I felt we were in control for a good portion of the sets but just struggled in the middle part of the set to maintain the lead. There was a lot of positives tonight so we have a solid base to build on moving forward."
Junior
Rachel Burkman and junior
Tyler Brown each had nine kills to pace the Titans, who had 40 kills and 32 errors in 159 attempts for a .050 attack percentage. The Tigers had a .107 hitting mark with 47 total kills.
Freshman
Jessica McCall led the way with 18 digs, followed by 17 from Burkman and 15 from Brown while
Kira Jackson and freshman
Caitlin Meyer had 17 assists. Junior
Maddie Williams led IWU with six blocks.

The Titans continue play in Wittenberg's National Invitational Tournament, playing Johns Hopkins at 12:30 p.m. ET and preseason No. 2-ranked Emory at 3 p.m. ET.
