Titan Baseball Posts 30-8 and 23-12 Wins at Carroll Saturday

WAUKESHA, Wis. -- The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team set a school record with 30 runs in a 30-8 game one win and went on to log a 23-12 win in game two over Carroll University in Waukesha, Wis., on Saturday, April 8.

The Titans improved to 12-7 overall and 5-1, good for first place in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, while the Pioneers slipped to 5-16 overall and 1-6 in conference play.

The 30 runs in game one eclipsed the old mark of 29, set in a 29-0 win over Webster in the first game of the 1993 season. IWU belted seven home runs in game one and also hit seven in game two, both establishing school game records. The previous high was six homers at Monmouth on April 18, 2006.

In the first game, IWU trailed 6-0 after the first inning before scoring seven in the second and tacking on 15 runs in the third. Gino Cavalieri and Jarrod Juskiewicz each had two-run homers and Pat Mollo had a solo home run in the second. In the third, Jacob Houghton and Juskiewicz, who finished with five RBI, both had three-run home runs in the third. Cavalieri had his second two-run homer and Tim Smyk added a two-run blast in the six run fifth inning.

Senior Sean Coonan (3-0) pitched four innings to get the win.

In game two, Juskiewicz had three more runs batted in with a double and his third homer of the day, a two-run shot in the sixth. Cavalieri also capped off a three-HR doubleheader with a solo in the seventh while other long balls came from Mollo, Nick Figus, John Bosco, Jonathan Broadbear and junior third baseman Jake Stewart had a grand slam in the fifth to give IWU a 9-1 lead.

Senior starter Jonathan Vlk (2-1) got the win, working five innings and striking out three while allowing four runs on eight hits.
