CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team got a season-high 23 hits and scored in every inning but the ninth in a 17-14 win over North Park University in Chicago on Tuesday, April 11.
The win gives Illinois Wesleyan a 14-7 overall record and puts the Titans in a first place tie with a 7-1 record in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Vikings slipped to 8-17 overall and 1-8 in league play.
Junior second baseman
Gino Cavalieri led the hit parade with a 4-for-6 night with three runs batted in and four runs scored. Sophomore leftfielder
John Bosco had three hits, including a double and a home run, and knocked home four runs.
Freshman centerfielder
Nick Figus (three singles), sophomore first baseman
Jonathan Broadbear (double and triple) and
Jacob Houghton (two doubles) each had three hits while senior shortstop
Jarrod Juskiewicz (triple, three RBI), senior catcher
Pat Mollo (home run) and junior third baseman
Jake Stewart each had two hits.
The second of four IWU hurlers, freshman righthander
Braden Miller (1-0) was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs on five hits in three innings. Senior lefthander
Nick Huskisson earned a save by working the final 1 1/3 shutout innings, allowing two hits with one strikeout.
NOTES: Mollo has homered in each of his last four games with six during the stretch ... The seven plate appearances by Bosco ties a school single-game record ... This is the fifth straight game for IWU to score in double digits and the ninth time this season ... It marks the 16th game this season with a 10+ hit offensive attack while opponents have had 10+ hits in a game 13 times against IWU pitching.

In the renewal of the Horenberger-Bass Classic, the Titans play at Division I Illinois State University at Duffy Bass Field in Normal at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 12 ... The Redbirds are 9-21 after a 6-5 loss in 10 innings to the University of Illinois at home on Tuesday night.
