BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan softball team came from behind in both games to earn one-run wins by scores of 7-6 and 5-4 over Monmouth College on Wednesday, March 29 at the IWU Softball Field.
The Titans improved to 10-4 this season while the Fighting Scots slipped to 7-8.
In game one, junior catcher
Amanda Lack provided a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh to score senior third baseman
Katie Caulfield, who had reached on a single and a two-base fielding error by the rightfielder.
Sophomore centerfielder
Jillian Runyon and freshman shortstop
Sam Berghoff, who tripled, each had two hits in the game and sophomore second baseman
Julie Josten had a two-run single.
Junior righthander
Mackenzie Marquis (5-2) relieved freshman starter
Brea Walker and tossed 2 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits with four strikeouts.
In game two, Josten had an RBI with a base hit and Caulfield had two RBI with a double and freshman
Shelby Fulk also doubled as one of IWU's seven hits.
Walker (2-0) came in relief of Marquis to earn the pitching win, working 4 1/3 innings of two-hit, scoreless relief, striking out four and walking one. Marquis went the first 2 2/3, allowing four runs on four hits with three strikeouts.
The Titans stranded seven runners in game one and nine more in game two.

Illinois Wesleyan plays a doubleheader at the University of Chicago on Saturday, April 1, and then opens College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play at North Park on Sunday, April 2.
