AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team plated three runs in the eighth inning and two in the ninth to get a 10-8 win over Keene State at the Lake Myrtle Field in Auburndale, Fla. on Sunday, March 12.
The Titans won for the second straight day in come-from-behind fashion to improve to 6-1 while Keene State slipped to 1-4.
Illinois Wesleyan got the go-ahead run in the ninth when senior catcher
Pat Mollo hit a one-out double down the leftfield line to score sophomore
Jonathan Broadbear, who had reached on a single. Mollo, who had three hits with a home run, three runs scored and three runs batted in, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by junior second baseman
Gino Cavalieri, who had two hits with the RBI.
The IWU offense banged out 16 hits in the game with sophomore leftfielder
John Bosco getting three hits including a double, while junior third baseman
Jake Stewart and freshman centerfielder
Nick Figus each had a pair of hits. Sophomore rightfielder
Jacob Houghton also had a double and drove in two runs.
Freshman lefthander
Jim O'Brien, the sixth Titan hurler of the day, was the winning pitcher as he went the final two innings and struck out four while allowing one hit.
