No. 26 Titan Baseball Loses in 14 Innings to No. 17 Ramapo

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team, ranked No. 26 in the American Baseball Coaches Association Top 30 poll, lost by a 4-3 score in 14 innings to Ramapo College, ranked #17 in the D3baseball Top 25 poll, in Auburndale, Fla., on Tuesday, March 14.

The Titans are 6-2 overall while the Roadrunners picked up their first win of the season and are 1-3.

Illinois Wesleyan scored a single run in the fifth to tie the game at 1-1 when junior Jake Stewart led off with a double, went to third on a single by Tim Smyk and scored on a fielding error by the Ramapo third baseman.

The Titans went ahead 3-1 with a pair of sixth inning runs. Freshman Nick Figus singled to lead off the inning, stole second, advanced to third on a flyout, and scored on a single by Stewart. Senior shortstop Jarrod Juskiewicz, who had walked, scored when Smyk delivered another RBI single.

Ramapo got 19 hits in the game and produced three singles in the top of the 14th to score the game-winning run. The Roadrunners left 13 men on base and the Titans, who had 10 hits in the game, stranded 12. In all eight games this season, IWU has generated double-digit hit totals.

Sophomore Nick Brune started the game and went five innings before an eight-inning relief stint for senior Brian Henry. Senior Louis Acklin (1-1) allowed the Roadrunners' run in the 14th and absorbed the loss.
