AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team came back from a 6-5 deficit after six innings to defeat Saint Joseph's (Me.) by a final score of 8-6 on Saturday, March 11, at Chain of The Lakes in Auburndale, Fla.
Illinois Wesleyan improved 5-1 this season while the Monks suffered their second loss of the season, falling to 6-2.
The Titans got the ball rolling with a huge third inning which resulted in an early 4-0 lead. With the bases loaded, sophomore
John Bosco drew a walk to score the first run of the morning. The next batter, senior
Jarrod Juskiewicz, doubled to right center plating three Titans in the process.
Things continued to swing in IWU's favor in the fourth as junior
Tim Smyk hit his first home run of the season, a solo shot to leftfield.
Saint Joseph's controlled the next three innings however, scoring six runs to take a 6-5 lead over the Titans.
Trailing by one, senior
Pat Mollo drew the Titans second bases loaded walk of the day to tie the game up at 6-all. A sac fly from Smyk gave the Titans the lead for good in the seventh, scoring sophomore
Jacob Houghton from third.
Juskiewicz put the nail in the coffin in the eighth, hitting his second double of the day to score freshman
Nick Figus.
Sophomore
Nick Brune earned the win despite recording just one out for the Titans. Senior
Brian Henry earned the three-inning save, allowing six baserunners and striking out four in a clean relief appearance.

With its third of seven games in Florida, Illinois Wesleyan plays Keene State College at 4:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 12.
