BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball team shot out to a 15-point lead in the first 8:10 of the game, led by 31 at halftime and cruised to a 107-77 win over Augustana at the Shirk Center on Matt "The Cat" Adams Night, Tuesday, Feb. 21.
The win ended a six-game losing streak to Augustana and gives the Titans a 17-8 overall record and a final mark of 9-7 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while Augustana lost for the third straight time and fell to 18-7 overall and 11-5 in the conference.
In scoring a season-high 107 points, Illinois Wesleyan shot .645 in the first 20 minutes (20 of 31) and nailed nine of 13 3-point tries (.692). The Titans finished with a season-best .587 field goal mark and the 37 field goals is also a team season-best.
Junior
Brady Rose led five Titans in double figure scoring with 24 points, 21 of those in the first half when he was 7-of-8 from the field and made all five of his 3-point tries.
Sophomore
Colin Bonnett added 19 and senior
Trevor Seibring netted 15 and snared a game-high seven rebounds. Senior
Andy Stempel scored 13 and sophomore
Nick Coleman came off the bench to score 11 and was 4-of-4 from the field with three treys.
Chrishawn Orange scored 19 to pace the Vikings, who were outrebounded 32-27 and committed 19 turnovers that led to 23 IWU points.
CCIW NOTES: The loss sends league-leading Augustana to the third seed in this weekend's CCIW postseason tournament, hosted by Carthage in Kenosha, Wis. Friday and Saturday. Carthage, North Park and Augie all finished with 11-5 CCIW records. Carthage earned the No. 1 seed by virtue of a 3-1 composite record against North Park and Augustana. North Park has the No. 2 seed by virtue of a 2-0 record against Augustana. North Central (9-7) is the No. 4 seed and will play Carthage while the Viking teams tangle with each other in the other semifinal.
