Illinois Wesleyan Topped by No. 11 WashU, 95-69

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball team fell victim to a hot-shooting, strong-rebounding effort by Washington U. in a 95-69 loss at the Shirk Center on Sunday, Dec. 17.

The Titans slipped to 7-2 with the loss while the Bears improved to 8-1.

Washington U. and IWU battled through five ties and eight lead changes early in the game. Tied for the final time at 20-20 with 11:27 to play in the first half, the Bears went on a 10-0 surge to get a 30-20 lead and went on to hold a 58-33 lead at intermission. WashU shot 59 percent (23 of 59) from the floor in the first 20 minutes, including 7 of 12 from 3-point range (.583) while the Titans managed just .333 from the field (12 of 36) and .294 from 3-range (5 of 17).

The Titans failed to score in the first 6 minutes of the second half and saw their deficit increase to a game-high 38 (trailing 71-33) with 13:58 to go.

Sophomore Zach Knobloch came off the bench to lead IWU with 17 points including five 3-pointers while junior Colin Bonnett scored 14 and senior Brady Rose added 11.

The Bears had five players in double digits, led by non-starter Jack Nolan with 23. David Schmelter had 10 points and a game-high 19 rebounds as WashU dominated the Titans on the glass, 49-33.

What's Next?
Illinois Wesleyan looks to get back in the win column with a game at the University of Chicago at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 19 ... This is the second of three straight games against University Athletic Association opponents. IWU plays at Emory in Atlanta, Ga., on Dec. 28.
