No. 24 Women's Soccer Falls to Wheaton in CCIW Championship

WHEATON, Ill. -- The No. 24-ranked Illinois Wesleyan women's soccer team fell to Wheaton College by a final score of 1-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) tournament championship match on Saturday, Nov. 4.

With a loss the Titans fell to 16-4 on the season and 8-10-8 in CCIW postseason tournament history. Wheaton earned the CCIW's automatic qualifying bid into the NCAA Division III women's soccer championship with a record of 13-4-3. Wheaton has now won the conference tournament 13 times since the event was established in 2002.

Wheaton's Isabelle Oliver scored the lone goal of the match, a strike from the top of the box in the 14th minute of action. The Thunder controlled the action for the first 25 minutes of play registering five shots on goal over that time frame.

After the initial barrage of offense, the Titan defense improved allowing just a single shot on goal for the remainder of the contest. Unfortunately for the Titans they were unable to capitalize on either of their two shot on goal chances in the second half despite holding a 5-2 total shot advantage.

Sophomore Flower Edington was responsible for both of IWU's shot on goal chances during the match. Edington scored a team-high five goals during conference action this season.

Freshman goalkeeper Kelli McCarthy turned in an impressive performance in goal making five saves and improving her save percentage to .833 in 2017. Wheaton's Kathryn McGregor made two saves on six total shots faced.
