CHICAGO -- The No. 21-ranked Illinois Wesleyan women's soccer team defeat North Park University on Tuesday, Oct. 3 by a final score of 5-1. IWU was led offensively by freshman
Cameron Hindel who tallied two goals on six total shot attempts. With two goals on Tuesday, Hindel now has a team-high 11 goals on the season alongside two assists.
With a win the Titans improved to 9-2-0 on the season with a 2-0 record in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). IWU is now on a five-game winning streak dating back to Sept. 17. North Park fell to 6-5-1 on the season with an 0-3-1 record in the CCIW.
Freshman
Kelli McCarthy earned the victory in goal making five saves in 83 minutes of action. Freshman goalkeeper
Kim Seper saw seven minutes of action, but made no saves. North Park's Sydney Martinez made 10 saves and allowed five goals.
KEY MOMENTS:
- Sophomore Jordan Ellerbrock opened the scoring for IWU with a goal in the 6th minute off an assist from senior Rachel Westerkamp, her second goal of the season.
- Hindel notched her third brace (two goals scored) of the season with one in each half on Tuesday. Both of Hindel's goal were unassisted.
- North Park broke their scoring silence in the 66th minute with a goal from Lorena Soria.
- Sophomore Flower Edington scored her second goal of the season in the 81st minute off an assist from senior Rachel Schneider.
- Schneider scored in the 85th minute of action via junior Rosie Pettenuzzo.
NOTABLES:
- Hindel now has 11 goals and two assists on the season, good for 24 points overall. The freshman from Batavia, Ill. leads the CCIW in goals scored with 11.
- Schneider's 85th minute goal was the first of her career.
- The Titans out-shot North Park by a 22-10Â tally including a 15-6 shots on goal advantage.
- IWU held a 5-1 advantage on corner kicks.
What's Next?
This Saturday, Oct. 7 the Titans will "Play For The Cure" in a home match against Elmhurst College. Elmhurst currently holds a record of 6-2 with a 1-1 record in the CCIW, but will face North Central College prior matching up against IWU.
