JACKSONVILLE, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan women's soccer team defeated Illinois College on Tuesday, Oct. 10 by a final score of 3-0. IWU's defense held Illinois College to just two shots all evening with none falling on goal.
With a victory the No. 20-ranked Titans improved to 11-2-0 overall while Illinois College fell to 3-11-0.
Freshman goalkeeper
Kelli McCarthy played all 90 minutes in goal but wasn't required to make a single save during the contest. Illinois College's Charlotte Crofton made 12 saves while allowing three goals.
KEY MOMENTS:
- Sophomore Flower Edington scored her fifth goal of the season, and fourth in the last three matches, in the 17th minute on Tuesday. Edington was well positioned to score after a shot attempt from freshman Megan O'Neal was deflected.
- Illinois College committed an own goal in the 44th minute of action after a header from senior Rachel Schneider hit the post.
- Senior Rachel Westerkamp scored the first goal of her career in the 86th minute via penalty kick. In this month's "Featured Titan", Westerkamp hoped to come back in another life as freshman Cameron Hindel so she could finally score a goal.
NOTABLES:
- Illinois Wesleyan out-shot Illinois College by a 30-2 margin, including 15-0 in shots on goal.
- The Titans held Illinois College without a shot during the entirety of the second half of play.
- Illinois College didn't take a corner kick all game as the Titans held an 8-0 advantage.
- Sophomore Jordan Ellerbrock recorded five shots on goal, and freshman Anna Eager and Hindel each had two.
- Junior Rosie Pettenuzzo and O'Neal also recorded shots on goal during the contest.
What's Next?
In a rematch of last season's conference championship game, Illinois Wesleyan will travel north to face Wheaton College on Saturday, Oct. 14. Wheaton is currently 5-4-3 with a 2-0-1 record in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.
