WHEATON, Ill. -- After Saturday's contest against the Thunder was postponed due to inclement weather, the No. 20-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team fell to Wheaton College by a final score of 2-0 on Monday, Oct. 16.
With a loss the Titans snapped a seven-match winning streak and fell to 11-3 overall with a 3-1 record in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). Wheaton improved to 7-4-3 and remained unbeaten in CCIW play with a 4-0-1 record.
IWU found themselves unlucky in the first period conceding a goal in the 13th minute of action to Wheaton's Madison Peebles via header. Freshman goalkeeper
Kelli McCarthy appeared to have made a save on the play, but the ball was past the goal line. The Thunder continued to pepper McCarthy with shots throughout the first half, finishing with eight total shots and four shots on goal.
Wheaton started fast in the second half as well, scoring their second goal of the match just six minutes in. Isabelle Oliver scored on a high-arching shot from 35 yards out to provide some insurance for the Thunder. The Titans took seven shots in the second half, six of which came in the final 15 minutes of action.
Illinois Wesleyan finished with 12 total shots and three on goal compared to 15 shots and five on goal for the Thunder.
Junior
