Titans Take 77-74 Home Decision Against Red Men on Jan. 14

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Junior Brady Rose poured in a career-high 25 points, including a 3-pointer that put the Titans ahead to stay at the 2:06 mark, as Illinois Wesleyan dropped Carthage College 77-74 in men's basketball at the Shirk Center on Saturday, Jan. 14.

The No. 22-ranked Titans improved to 12-4 and 4-3 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Red Men slipped to 11-4 overall and 4-2 in league play.

With the game tied at 71-71 with 4:22 to play, Carthage took a 73-71 lead with 2:20 left on a basket by Kiernan Baltimore. But Rose drained a 3-pointer with 2:06 left to stake IWU to a 74-73 advantage. Free throws by senior Andy Stempel with 1:08 left gave the Titans a 76-73 lead and a free throw by freshman Miles Curry with :01.8 remaining finished the scoring for the Titans.

Senior Alec Bausch had 13 points and 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season while also dishing out five assists and sophomore Colin Bonnett added 11 points for the Titans.

Jordan Thomas scored 18 points to lead Carthage and Mike Stevenson contributed 17.

The Titans outrebounded Carthage, 40-36, in a game that was tied six times and saw 13 lead changes. Carthage scored 40 of their 74 points in the paint compared to 18 for IWU, with the Titans knocking in 13 3-pointers in 32 attempts. Carthage managed just 2-of-13 from 3-point range (.154) in the second half.

IWU was guilty of 14 turnovers compared to nine for the Red Men. The Titans have now won 12 of the last 13 games and 13 of the last 17 against Carthage and Red Men head coach Bosko Djurickovic's record at the Shirk Center is 2-19.
