IWU Volleyball Falls in Opener at Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio -- The No. 19-ranked Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team lost its season opener in four sets at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio, on Friday, Sept. 2. IWU lost by scores of 15-25, 22-25, 25-21, 21-25.

The Titans are 0-1 as the Polar Bears won twice on Friday in the 38th annual ONU Invitational.

Illinois Wesleyan junior Kyleigh Block had a team-high 17 kills with 17 digs while sophomore Tyler Brown had 13 kills and a team-best 18 digs.

Senior setter Colleen Rynne provided 22 assists with 14 digs and sophomore Heidi Dague had five total blocks to pace the Titans.

IWU hit .187 for the match compared to .247 for the Polar Bears.

At 7-7 in the first set, Ohio Northern used a 5-0 run to push the lead to 12-7 and went on to win 25-15. Trailing by a 6-5 score in the second set, the Polar Bears used a 4-0 run to regain the lead and hold on to win set two, 25-22.
Illinois Wesleyan came back from being down by as many as six in the third set to win 25-21 and the Titans kept the fourth set tight before ONU closed on a 5-1 run to win.

Illinois Wesleyan plays two matches Saturday in the Ohio Northern tourney, facing Trine University at 1 p.m. ET and Ohio Wesleyan at 3 p.m. ET at the ONU Sports Center.
