IWU Women's Lacrosse Loses in CCIW Championship Game

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan women' lacrosse team lost by a 15-3 score at Augustana in the championship game of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin postseason tournament on Saturday, May 7, at Thorson-Lucken Field in Rock Island, Ill.

The Titans are 15-4 this season while Augustana is 17-2 and, with no automatic bids from the conference, both teams will now await word on an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship as the full national field will be announced on Sunday, May 8, at 8:30 p.m. Central time via this link at NCAA.com.

Illinois Wesleyan had an early 2-1 lead after just more than three minutes on unassisted goals by senior Lauren Pavich and freshman Noelle Latourneau. But Augustana reeled off 10 unanswered goals to lead 11-2 with 20:11 to play in the game before freshman Sara Dust scored on an assist from freshman Dani Engelbreit.

IWU was outshot 36-11 and the Vikings snared 25 ground balls to 11 for the Titans. Sophomore goalkeeper Claire Quist made 13 saves.
