IWU Baseball Loses 3-0 Decision at Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team found themselves on the wrong end of a 3-0 loss at Carthage in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin baseball game at Augie Schmidt Field in Kenosha, Wis., on Saturday, April 9.

IWU is now 11-10 overall and 4-2 in the CCIW while the host Red Men improved to 10-10 and 4-2 in the conference.

Carthage was limited to only three hits in the game, but was able to scrape across a run in the bottom of the third thanks in part to three walks and a fielder's choice. The Red Men added two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth by stringing together two consecutive hits capped by a Alex Letto home run over the left field fence. Illinois Wesleyan stranded four runners in the game including two in the top of the ninth while scattering seven hits.

IWU leadoff hitter Gino Cavalieri went 3-for-4 in the game and outfielders John Bosco and Ben Manski each recorded two hits.

Junior Nick Huskisson (5-1) took the loss for the first time this season, allowing three runs in seven innings of work and giving up six walks.

What's Next?
Illinois Wesleyan and Carthage will cap off their three-game series with a doubleheader on Sunday in Kenosha beginning at 11 a.m. after today's second game was postponed due to below freezing temperatures.
