KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team came from behind to win twice on Sunday (April 10), using big innings to sweep a doubleheader at Carthage by scores of 11-7 and 14-10, in Kenosha, Wis.

The Titans improved to 13-10 overall and a first-place 6-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Red Men are 11-11 overall and 4-4 in the league.

In the first game, trailing 5-0 into the top of the seventh, sophomore first baseman
Tim Smyk was hit by a pitch and went to second on a ground out.

Jacob Houghton walked to load the bases before a single from sophomore second baseman
Gino Cavalieri, who had four of IWU's 11 hits, got Smyk home for IWU's first run and the bases were still loaded. Sophomore
Mike Plecki doubled to left field to chase home Manski and Houghton and a walk to freshman leftfielder
John Bosco loaded the sacks again.
Junior shortstop
Jarrod Juskiewicz drew a walk to bring in Cavalieri and make the score 5-4. After a strikeout, Smyk doubled down the rightfield line to score Bosco and Plecki and give IWU a 6-5 lead and sophomore
Brian Johnson doubled to right center to score Juskiewicz and Smyk and put the Titans ahead 8-5.
When Manski singled to rightfield, Johnson scored to complete the scoring in the nine-run inning.

Junior starter
Sean Coonan improved to 2-1 with the win, working the first six innings and allowing five runs on 11 hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Brian Henry got his second save of the season, allowing one run over the final 1 2/3 innings.

In the second game, IWU trailed 9-4 before scoring five in the sixth to tie the game at 9-9 and added four more in the sevemth to stake itself yto a 13-9 lead. The Titans had 14 hits, led by Smyk going 4-for-4 with four runs scored. Manski had three hits with two home runs and four RBI and Houghton had two hits and three four with a three-run homer in the seventh. Cavalieri had three more hits with three runs batted in and scored twice.

Sophomore lefty
Ben Rashid (1-1), the sixth of seven IWU pitchers, got the win. He struck out three and allowed only one run on three hits in 2 1/3 innings.

Illinois Wesleyan hosts nonconference Knox College in a 6 p.m. game on Tuesday, April 12 at Horenberger Field.
