Men's Lacrosse Rebounds With 17-9 Victory

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- A 6-6 halftime tie was broken the Illinois Wesleyan men's lacrosse team scoring 11 second half goals on their way to a 17-9 victory over Olivet College at Tucci Stadium on Saturday, March 26.

IWU is now 5-3 overall while the visiting Comets fell to 1-6.

Illinois Wesleyan scored the opening goal of the game before allowing four straight Olivet goals, trailing 4-2 after one quarter of action. In the second quarter, IWU would reverse roles by outscoring the Comets 4-2 to find themselves knotted at six heading into the locker room. Olivet briefly took a 7-6 lead to start the third quarter before the Titans reeled off seven straight goals, and outscored the Comets 4-2 in the final frame.

Junior Michael Julius tied the school-record with eight goals, which was set by teammate Tim Smith earlier this season against Hope. Smith added five goals of his own while Jacob Perry scored two.

Goalie Steven Laduzinsky earned the win, making nine saves and giving up nine goals.

IWU outshot Olivet 71-28 and won 22 of 30 faceoffs. The Titans were successful on 16 of 20 clear attempts and picked up 34 ground balls compared to 40 for the Comets.
