Late Goal Drops IWU Men's Lacrosse

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – In a game where points came at a premium, the Illinois Wesleyan men's lacrosse team dropped a 7-6 decision at Eastern University after giving up the game-winning goal with only 26 seconds remaining in the game at Olson Field on Saturday, March 19.

IWU is now 4-3 overall and went 1-2 on its spring break road-trip while the host Eagles improved to 3-4 overall.

IWU took a 2-1 lead after one period of action and took a 5-3 lead heading into halftime. Illinois Wesleyan, who came into today's contest averaging over 18 goals per game, was limited to only one goal in the second half and was outscored 4-1. The game was tied at five after 45 minutes of play before the two teams would trade goals in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter. The next 11 minutes would go scoreless before Eastern would find the back of the net and win the ensuing faceoff to keep the Titans from finding an equalizer despite one last ditch effort.

Michael Julius and James Maibuecher scored two goals each while Maibuecher would assist on two goals. Tim Smith and Nick Winter would score the other two IWU goals with Winter adding one assist.

Goalie Steven Laduzinsky took the loss in net, playing all 60 minutes and making 16 saves.
