MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team fell behind 6-2 after the first three innings and lost a 6-4 decision to Christian Brothers University at Nadicksbernd Field in Memphis, Tenn., on Thursday, March 17.
Despite ourhitting Christian Brothers, 11-9, the Titans lost their fourth straight game and slipped to 4-5 this spring. The Buccaneers improved to 6-17.
Sophomores
Gino Cavalieri and
Brian Johnson, junior third baseman
Jarrod Juskiewicz and freshman rightfielder
John Bosco all had two hits for IWU. Cavalieri had a double, a triple and two runs batted in while Johnson and Juskiewicz also had two-base hits.
Junior righthander
Louis Acklin, IWU's third pitcher of the game, stopped the Bucs' offense over 5 2/3 scoreless innings, scattering three hits and striking out five. Starting sophomore lefthanded pitcher
Ian McGinnis went the first two innings and allowed three runs on four hits with a walk and sophomore
Matt Banaitis was touched for three runs on two hits, a walk and three wild pitches in 1/3 innings.
For the Bucs, Christian Halterman went 2-for-4 wth a double, a stolen base and two RBI and Michael Halley was 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI. Matthew Mills earned the win, throwing two scoreless innings of relief.
What's Next?Illinois Wesleyan plays in a tournament at Rose-Hulman in TerreHaute, Ind., on Saturday, March 19. IWU meets Baldwin Wallace (5-6) at 2 p.m. (ET) and will play the host school at 5 p.m. (ET). Rose-Hulman and Illinois Wesleyan will play again on Sunday at 12 p.m.
