Titans Barrage Bulldogs for 29 Goals

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan men's lacrosse team scored early and often in a school-record setting 29-13 win over Adrian on Saturday, March, 12 at Tucci Stadium.

IWU has now won three straight games to improve to 3-1 while the visiting Bulldogs dropped to 0-3 on the season. The 29 goals breaks the school record of 28 set against Centenary on March 10, 2014 and the 96 shots eclipsed the old school mark of 55 at Dubuque on April 15, 2015.

In a wild and frenetic first 30 minutes of action, the Titans broke through for 17 goals (10 in the second quarter) while limiting Adrian to only three total goals in the first half. Picking up where they left off, Illinois Wesleyan scored the first four goals to open the third quarter and took 23-6 lead heading into the final frame. Leading 28-10 with with just under three minutes remaining in the game, freshman Sean Lee found the back of the net to score the record-setting goal.

Junior Tim Smith led all players with seven goals scored while junior Michael Julius netted five goals and two assists. Other Titans to score multiple goals included freshman Bailey Marth, junior Colin Daly and sophomore Nick Winter with three goals each and junior Evan Mok-Lamme and James Maibuecher each getting two.

Junior goalie Steven Laduzinsky picked up the win, playing the first 45 minutes while making 11 saves. Jordan Staley came on in relief and made two saves.

IWU held a 96-41 edge while being successful on all 21 clear attempts. The Titans picked up 67 ground balls compared to 30 for Adrian and held a commanding 34-10 advantage in faceoffs. Physicality was a main theme of the game as the two teams combined for 20 penalties equaling 20:30 in penalty minutes.
