MOUNT VERNON, Iowa -- The Illinois Wesleyan women's lacrosse team opened its 2016 season with a school record 19-1 win over Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa on Saturday, Feb. 20.
The previous team high for goals in a game was 18 in wins over Benedictine (18-6) and Carroll (18-5) last season.
The Titans, who outshot Cornell 25-3, got three goals each from sophomore
Abby Kushina, freshman
Sara Dust, junior
Maggie Krause and senior
Lauren Pavich, who also contributed three assists. Freshman attacker
Claudia Richman had four assists to tie a school single-game record set by Pavich against North Central on April 18, 2015.
Illinois Wesleyan had 19 draw controls compared to two for the Rams and IWU collected 29 ground balls to 17 for Cornell.
Sophomore
Claire Quist (0 goals allowed) and freshman
Dani Engelbreit (1 goal allowed) split the goalkeeping duties for Illinois Wesleyan with each getting 30 minutes.
What's Next?The Illinois Wesleyan women's team will open its home season next Saturday, Feb. 27, with a 1 p.m. game against Benedictine at Tucci Stadium.
