BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team outscored North Park by five in the final period to post a 63-55 win over the Vikings on "Pink Zone" night at the Shirk Center on Saturday, Feb. 13.
The Titans improved to 15-9 overall and are 10-3 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Vikings are now 16-8 overall and fell to 7-6 in the conference.
Sophomore
Molly McGraw led three IWU players in double figures with 17 points. Junior
Gabby Weber added 13 and freshman
Maddie Merritt had 11 points and a team-high six rebounds along with
Alina Lehocky.
North Park got 23 points from Liz Rehberger, who was 11 of 12 from the free throw line, and Amani Davis added 12 points. Soly Roman had a game-high 10 rebounds as the Vikings outrebounded IWU, 39-33.
North Park was guilty of 28 turnovers and IWU turned those into 20 points. The Titans committed 16 turnovers and led after every quarter of the game. In the third period, IWU built up a 15-point advantage at 41-26 (their largest of the game) with 5:56 remaining before the Vikings chipped away and trailed by only three at the end of the quarter, 46-43.
What's Next?Illinois Wesleyan has a week away from competition before their next game on Saturday, Feb. 20 against Elmhurst. It will be "Senior Night" and the Titans' lone senior
