Titans Claim 87-79 Win Over North Park at Shirk Center

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball team never trailed, shot 59 percent in building up a 15-point first half lead and went ahead to win, 87-79, over North Park at the Shirk Center on Saturday, Feb. 13.

On the "Frontier Communications Pink Zone Game" and a night when the 1996 and 2006 IWU NCAA third place teams were honored, the Titans evened their mark at 12-12 overall and are 6-7 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Vikings are also 6-7 in the league and are 14-10 overall.

Illinois Wesleyan had four players in double figures, led by 15 points out of seniors Joel Pennington and Bryce Dolan. Junior Trevor Seibring scored 12 points and freshman Colin Bonnett added 11. Senior Ryan Coyle and sophomore Jaylen Beasley each got six rebounds as the Titans outrebounded the Vikings, 35-30.

The Vikings received 25 points and 12 rebounds from Jordan Robinson and 22 points out of junior Juwan Henry, just below his season average of 24.1. Michael Hutchinson came off the bench to score 16 points.

IWU cooled off only slightly in the second half, shooting 52 percent and finishing at 56 percent for the game. The game was tied only once at 2-2 before IWU went on an 8-0 run to get a 10-2 lead and never trailed the remainder of the contest. The Titans were guilty of 14 turnovers while the Vikings committed nine.

What's Next?
Illinois Wesleyan has a week away from competition before their home regular season finale against Elmhurst at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20. The Bluejays are 10-3 in the CCIW and 20-4 overall after losing at home to North Central, 79-64.
