Early Goals Push Titans Past Millikin

DECATUR, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan women's soccer team defeated Millikin University on Tuesday, Oct. 18 by a final score of 2-1. IWU scored two goals in the first six minutes of action to secure the victory over Millikin.
 
With a win the Titans improved to 8-5-2 with a 4-1 record in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. Millikin fell to 8-5-1 with a 2-3 record in the CCIW following their loss.
 
At the 5:19 mark in the first half, senior Skyler Tomko scored her fourth goal of the season off an assist from fellow senior Emily Snider. Tomko beat the Big Blue goalkeeper in front of the net to give the Titans an early lead.
 
Just five seconds later, senior Alison Seger tallied her fourth goal of the season off an assist from senior Sarah Trach. Seger's goal from five yards out proved to be the game-winner when things were all said and done.
 
Millikin pulled within one goal in the 12th minute as Raven Withaar scored her fifth tally of the season.
 
IWU dominated the offensive side of the ball on Tuesday night placing 12 shots on goal compared to three for Millikin. In total the Titans took 20 shots compared to five for the Big Blue.
 
Freshman Kaitlyn Chen and Flower Edington placed three and two shots on goal respectively.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Denney saw a lowly three save chances, making the save on two occasions. Millikin keeper Anna Benvenuto got a workout in goal making 10 saves during the contest.
 
What's Next?
The Titans continue their stretch of away games on Saturday, Oct. 22 when they take on Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis. Carthage currently holds a record of 8-5 with a 2-2 record in CCIW action.
