Late, Quick Goals Propel Titans to CCIW-Opening Win

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Two goals a little more than a minute apart provided the winning margin as the Illinois Wesleyan women's soccer team defeated Carroll University, 2-1, on Homecoming at Neis Field on Saturday, Oct. 1.

The Titans improved to 4-4-2 overall and won their College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin opener while the Pioneers are now 7-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the CCIW.

Senior Alison Seger opened the scoring at the 77:39 mark and senior Skyler Tomko followed just 68 seconds later (78:47) to stake the Titans to a 2-0 lead.

Rachel Van Sluys got the Pioneers' only goal with just 14 seconds to play in the match (89:46).

The Titans outshot Carroll, 19-6, and had 10 shots on goal compared to six for Carroll. IWU sophomore keeper Katie Denney made four saves and Carroll's Christina O'Block had eight saves.
