Photo Gallery of IWU/Carthage Men's GameBLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball team gathered in 47 rebounds, second most in a game this season, on their way to a 78-52 win over Carthage at the Shirk Center on Saturday, Jan. 9.
The win gives IWU a season record of 8-6 with a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin mark of 2-1 while the Red Men are even at 7-7 this year and fall to 1-2 in the conference.
IWU outrebounded Carthage 47-39, as senior
Ryan Coyle had nine boards, junior
Trevor Seibring had seven and junior
Alec Bausch added six.
The Titans had five players in double-digit scoring, led by Bausch with 16 and senior
Joel Pennington with 14. Seibring scored 11 and Coyle and junior
Andy Stempel, who scored the game's first eight points, each had 10.
Carthage's Tony Pierce Jr. had a game-high 17 points and Jordon Kedrowski added 10.
The game was knotted at 17-17 with 9:44 left in the half before IWU got a 3-pointer from senior
Bryce Dolan and a layup by Coyle to grab a 22-17 edge and went on to lead Carthage by seven, 36-29, at intermission. A Coyle 3-pointer staked IWU to a 10 point lead at the start of the second half and the Titans led by double figures the final 17:05 of the contest.
Carthage was held without a field goal the final 7:33 of the game, scoring their final seven points on free throws. Both teams committed 11 turnovers
The Titans' high game for rebounds this season is 54 against Greenville on Nov. 17, 2015.
What's Next?The Titans travel to Decatur to face Millikin on Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m.
The Big Blue is 6-8 overall and 0-3 in the CCIW after a 73-65 home court loss to Elmhurst on Saturday.
