Titans Collect Road Win Over Red Men, 69-60

KENOSHA, Wis. – In a game in which Illinois Wesleyan never trailed and were tied only once at 6-6, the IWU men's team sailed to a 69-60 win over Carthage College at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis., on Saturday, Jan. 30.
 
With their second straight road win, the Titans improved to 11-9 overall and 5-4 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Red Men are 8-12 this season and 2-7 in the league.
 
Senior Bryce Dolan came off the bench to score 14 points to lead IWU while junior Trevor Seibring added 12 points with four rebounds and senior Joel Pennington added 11 points.
 
Illinois Wesleyan held a 30-19 halftime lead and were ahead by as many as 15 at 57-42 with 8:11 to go in the game. The Red Men cut the IWU lead to eight points on four occasions in the second half and got within seven points at 67-60 with 44 seconds left.
 
In a postgame interview with WJBC Radio, IWU head coach Ron Rose said that a road win was exactly what the team needed. "Our defense early was a key as they didn't get any easy looks. Our guys are playing with a strong sense of urgency now and this was a good team win."
 
In just seven minutes of playing time, sophomore Jaylen Beasley led the Titans with a career-high seven rebounds in a game when IWU was outrebounded 40-37. "It was a great game for Jaylen," said Rose. "He's a skilled young man and is getting better all the time. He  has a really bright future for us."
 
Carthage got 13 points from Tony Pierce Jr. with 12 points and 16 rebounds coming from Kiston Lee and 11 points out of Mike Stevenson.
 
What's Next?
The Titans will play at the Shirk Center on Wednesday, Feb. 3, hosting Millikin in a 7 p.m. tipoff. The Big Blue is winless in nine conference games and 6-14 overall this season after an 85-56 loss at Elmhurst on Saturday.
 
NOTES: Dolan made three 3-pointers and now has 182 in his IWU career, moving into seventh place ahead of Bryan Crabtree (179, 1993-97). In sixth place is Adam Dauksas with 208 (2002-06) and the all-time leader is Jordan Zimmer with 264 (2008-12).
