Titan Volleyball 10-2 After Weekend Tournament Sweep

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Winners of eight straight matches, the Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team improved to 10-2 with a pair of three-set wins on Saturday, Sept. 19 at the Barker Chevrolet Classic II in the Shirk Center.

Illinois Wesleyan defeated Grinnell, 25-9, 25-16, 25-18, before beating Franklin College, 25-15, 25-19, 25-16. Grinnell slipped to 0-8 this season and Franklin is 4-9.

"It was good to see our team play well again this weekend," said IWU head coach Kim Nelson-Brown. "Numerous people contributed and helped lead the way to our victories."

Illinois Wesleyan freshman Rachel Burkman and senior Mary Rankin were selected to the all-tournament team. They were joined by Lauren Marsh, Aurora University; Kylie Siebert, Augustana College; Hannah O'Brien, Anderson University; Amanda Lelivelt, Franklin College.

In  the win over Grinnell, sophomore Kyleigh Block led the Titans with 14 kills, two blocks and six digs. Freshman Tyler Brown had nine kills and team-highs of nine digs and three service aces. Tara Adams added five kills.
Sophomore Maisy Bowden led IWU with three total blocks and junior Colleen Rynne had a team-best 25 assists. Alexa Cornish also provided nine digs.

Against Anderson, Block led the team with nine kills while Bowden had seven kills with two blocks and Brown added six kills with two service aces and 14 digs. Rynne had 18 assists and freshman Leah Seielstad added 13. Rankin had 13 digs and Block made seven.
