ST. LOUIS, MO. – The No. 4-ranked Illinois Wesleyan women's soccer team played 83 scoreless minutes before giving up only their second goal all season in a 1-0 loss at No. 12-ranked Washington University at Francis Field in St. Louis on Saturday, Sept. 19.

With the loss, the Titans fell for the first time this season and are 7-1-0 overall while the host Bears improved to 5-1-0 this season. Washington U. now leads the all-time series with IWU 9-5-4 and has won five straight against the Titans with the last IWU win coming in 2010. 15 of the last 18 matches between the two squads have been decided by one goal or less.

Neither team saw many opportunities in the first half as the two teams combined for only nine shots total. Washington U. outshot the Titans 7-6 in the second half, and made the most of their opportunities as Katie Chandler put one past IWU goalie

Denney played all 90 minutes in net for the Titans, making six saves and suffering her first collegiate loss. Sophomore
Skyler Tomko led IWU with two shots while seven other Titans had one shot each. Â

What's Next?IWU returns home to face the University of Chicago in a non-conference match on Thursday, September 24
th at Neis Field. IWU beat the Maroons twice last year, including a 3-2 overtime victory in an NCAA sectional match.
