Women's Soccer Puts Sewanee Away Early in 3-0 Win

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The No. 4-ranked Illinois Wesleyan scored two goals in the first four minutes of the game to put away The University of the South early in a 3-0 win at Neis Soccer Field on Friday, September 11.
 
With the win, the Titans improved to 5-0 for the first time since the 2010 while Sewanee remains winless with a record of 0-2-1.
 
Senior Sydney Fox scored a mere 36 seconds into the game to give the Titans a 1-0 lead before Sewanee would be called for a foul in the box to give Mary Kate Schmidt a penalty shot. Schmidt would convert the penalty shot at the 3:05 mark to give IWU a 2-0 lead that the Titans would take into halftime.
 
Fox would tack on an insurance goal in the 74th minute (73:49) to make the score 3-0, while IWU allowed only three second half shots to the Tigers.
 
Freshman Katie Denney made the start in goal, going all 90 minutes to post her third shutout of the season while only facing five shots total.
 
What's Next?
Illinois Wesleyan will stay home to entertain Central College on Sunday, September 13 in a 1 p.m. match. The Dutch are ranked No. 29 in this week's D3soccer.com poll and sport a 3-1 record.
