Comeback Falls Short in 11-7 Men's Lacrosse Setback

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan men's lacrosse team fell behind 4-0 after the first quarter and climbed back to within one goal midway through the third period, but could get no closer in an 11-7 loss to Augustana at Tucci Stadium on Wednesday, April 22.

The Titans are now 10-6 overall and finished with a 3-2 record in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, good for third place. Augustana improved to 12-3 overall and 4-0 in the CCIW, tied atop the league standings with Carthage, also 4-0 after a 20-0 win at Carroll Wednesday. Carthage and Augustana will play Saturday to decide the regular season title and IWU will play on the road against the No. 2 seed in the CCIW semifinals on Wednesday, April 29.

Trailing 4-0 after one, the Titans got three second period tallies and were behind 7-3 at intermission. IWU scored the first three goals of the third quarter and trailed only 7-6 before Augustana scored the next four goals and led 11-6 with 7:22 remaining in the game.

Illinois Wesleyan got two goals each from Adam Lambert and sophomore Tim Smith while Nick Winter, sophomore Michael Julius and Colin Daly each provided one. Lambert had two assists and freshman James Maibuecher had one.

Sophomore Steven Laduzinsky made nine saves as the Vikings took 20 shots on goal and outshot IWU overall, 31-27. Illinois Wesleyan had 29 ground balls to 27 for Augustana and the Titans won 12 faceoffs to nine for Augustana.

The Titans close out their regular season at home against the University of Dallas at 12 p.m. Sunday, April 26.
