Nine Hurlers Toss Three-Hit Shutout at Eagles

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Nine pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout as Illinois Wesleyan topped Benedictine 5-0 in a nonconference baseball game at Horenberger Field on Wednesday, April 15.

The Titans, who got eight hits, improved to 19-7 while Benedictine is now 13-13.

IWU scored a single run in the third and put up their other four in the fourth. Adam Glogovsky led off the third with a single to left, stole second base and advanced to third on a double to right-center by senior centerfielder Tim Coonan. Senior second baseman Derek Idstein lofted a sacrifice fly to right to score Glogovsky.

In the fourth, IWU got the bases loaded on singles by freshman third baseman Gino Cavalieri and Nick Huskisson and a misplayed sacrifice bunt by designated hitter Jared Rubin. Glogovsky knocked in Cavalieri with a groundout to third and Huskisson scored on a Coonan groundout. Idstein singled through the left side to chase home Rubin and, after Idstein stole second. sophomore catcher Pat Mollo smacked a hard single down the third base line to bring home Idstein.

Kyle Snedeker (4-0) got the win as he went the first three frames in a game intended to get many Illinois Wesleyan pitchers some activity. Snedeker allowed one hit and struck out two.

Illinois Wesleyan resumes College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play with a doubleheader at Augustana on Saturday. First pitch will be at 1 p.m.
