Box Score

JACKSON, Miss. - Illinois Wesleyan trailed 9-1 after two innings and, despite getting more hits in the game (by a 15-9 count), couldn't mount enough of a rally in a 14-9 baseball loss at Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., on Monday, March 9.

The Titans are 2-1 while the Majors improved to 9-3 with the win in the game that was originally scheduled for Tuesday but moved ahead one day to escape a rainy weather forecast.

IWU got single runs in the second, third, seventh and ninth and plated three runs in the fourth with two more in the fifth. The Titans closed to within one run at 9-8 heading into the bottom of the seventh when the Majors tacked on five runs, four of them unearned as the Titans were guilty of three errors.

Senior second baseman Derek Idstein had three singles, a double and a walk and scored one run. Junior third baseman Matthew Mardis had three hits, including a home run, with sophomore catcher Pat Mollo, junior leftfielder Adam Glogovsky and sophomore designated hitter Jared Rubin all getting two hits each.

Junior lefthanded starting pitcher Josh Jimenez (0-1) took the loss, lasting just 2/3 of an inning and allowing six earned runs on three hits, two walks and a balk. Working in relief, six other Titan hurlers scattered six hits with eight strikeouts and four walks over the last 7 1/3 innings.

What's Next?
The Titans and Majors are slated for a 5:30 p.m. first pitch on Wednesday, March 11 but the forecast could alter that scheduling.
