Titans Cruise on Day 2 in Florida



ORLANDO, Fla. - The No.8-ranked Illinois Wesleyan softball team breezed passed Hiram College and Coe College with 9-1 and 8-1 wins, at the Rebel Spring Games in Orlando, Fla., on Sunday, March 8.

The Titans jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after one inning of play against Hiram and would add three runs in the third, one in the fourth, and three in the sixth to end the game due to run-rule in six innings. Sam Gudat and Hannah Bowen paced IWU with three hits apiece with Gudat also swiping one bag. 

Freshman Mackenzie Marque picked up the pitching win, going three innings and allowing one run on three hits while striking out five. Stephanie Prentice also saw action on the mound, pitching three innings in relief giving up three hits and striking out four.

The hit parade for the Titans continued into their second game of the day against Coe as IWU would score nine eight runs on 13 hits. Bowen again would record three hits, going three-for-four with one RBI while sophomore Sarah Platt and junior Laura Bonds each drove two runs in.

Chloe Montgomery picked up her third win of the season on the mound for the Titans, pitching five and two thirds innings giving up one run on three hits.

Illinois Wesleyan conitinues thier nine-game trip on Monday, facing Marietta at 10 a.m. Eastern and Thomas More at 12:15 p.m.
