6-0 Softball Titans Win Twice in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. - Junior second baseman Laura Bonds (pictured) got three hits in each game and senior Chloe Montgomery got both pitching wins as the No. 8-ranked Illinois Wesleyan softball team won a pair of contests on Monday, March 9, in Orlando, Fla.

IWU worked nine innings to get a 10-9 win over Marietta on a game-winning single by freshman Stephanie Prentice, then shutout Thomas More College on two hits in a 4-0 win.

In the opener, IWU fell behind the Pioneers by a 9-3 score heading into the bottom of the sixth before posting six runs to tie the score. Freshman rightfielder Maggie Graham had a two-run homer and Bonds drove in three with a bases loaded double.
Senior Hannah Bowen, junior Cassidy Tarpey and junior leftfielder Mary Rankin each had two hits in IWU's 11-hit attack.
Montgomery worked the final 3 1/3 innings, allowing only one hit but walking four while stiking out two.

Montgomery (5-0) came back to start against the Saints and pitched 4 2/3 innings of no-hit ball before giving way to Jenna Noland. Montgomery struck out four and walked three.
In addition to Bonds' three hits, Graham added two more hits including a double, and junior shortstop Sam Gudat drove home a pair of runs with a single and a sacrifice fly. Rankin also banged out a triple in the second game.

What's Next?
After a day off Tuesday, the Titans play Husson (10 a.m.) and Wheaton Mass. (12:15 p.m.) on Wednesday, March 11.
