BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Trailing 7-2 headed into the fourth inning, the Illinois Wesleyan baseball team scored seven in the fourth and seven more in the fifth to build an insurmountable lead and get a 17-7 win over Elmhurst at Horenberger Field on Sunday, March 29.

The Titans improved to 11-4 overall and 3-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Bluejays are 5-9 this season and 0-3 in the league.

Senior centerfielder Tim Coonan, senior second baseman Derek Idstein, junior first baseman Matthew Mardis and sophomore shortstop Jarrod Juskiewicz all had two hits apiece with Idstein and Juskiewicz having a pair of doubles each, while Mardis and sophomore rightfielder Nick Huskisson each had three runs batted in. In addition to getting 12 hits, IWU took advantage of six walks, three hit batsmen and five Elmhurst errors.

Catcher Pat Mollo hit a solo home run and scored three runs, as did Idstein and Coonan.

Sophomore Jonathan Vlk (3-0) got the pitching win in relief as he went 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

Illinois Wesleyan will continue CCIW play on Tuesday (March 31) with a 3 p.m. doubleheader in Chicago against North Park.
