Box Score 2 BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team got wins of 1-0 and 9-5 against Elmhurst to open 2015 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play at Horenberger Field on Saturday, March 28.
The Titans improved to 10-4 overall and the Bluejays fell to 5-8.
In game one, the Titans scored the game's only run in the fifth inning when sophomore
Jarrod Juskiewicz led off the inning with a long triple that soared over the centerfielder's head and came in to score on freshman third baseman
Gino Cavalieri's single.
Senior starter
John Munyon (2-1) got the mound win for the IWU, allowing just four hits and striking out seven in seven innings. Senior
Dan Truesdale pitched a perfect ninth to notch his fourth save of the season.
In the second game, the Titans opened up a 0-0 game in the fourth by scoring five runs on seven hits and sending 11 hitters to the plate. The Titans plated three more runs in the fifth inning and a single run in the sixth to go ahead 9-0.
Offensively, Cavalieri, who had two more RBI, and catcher
Pat Mollo each had three hits to lead IWU and Mollo cracked a solo home run in the sixth. Juskiewicz also knocked home a pair of runs.
Senior starter
Matt Hart (2-0) was the winning hurler, throwing 5 1/3 innings and allowing two unearned runs on six hits with a walk and five strikeouts. The Bluejays threatened in the last of the ninth, scoring a run and loading the bases to get the tying run to the plate with just one out, but Truesdale came on in relief to get a strikeout and a groundout to earn his fifth save of the year and second of the day.
What's Next?Weather permitting, the same two clubs will do battle at 12 p.m. Sunday at Horenberger Field.
