Late Rally Sends Titans to Baseball Loss

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team saw a 2-0 lead evaporate in the eighth inning in suffering a 3-2 loss at Washington U. in St. Louis on Friday, March 20.
 
The Titans are 5-3 this season while the Bears have won eight in a row and improved to 10-3.
 
Illinois Wesleyan got single runs in the first and second. In the first, senior centerfielder Tim Coonan led off the game with a single, stole second and scored on a double by sophomore catcher Pat Mollo. In the second inning, junior first baseman Matthew Mardis led off with a double and scored with two outs when Coonan delivered a two-out single through the right side.
Coonan and Mollo each had three of IWU's nine hits while Mardis had two and Nick Huskisson had a double.
 
Senior righthander John Munyon (1-1) started for IWU and allowed nine hits and three runs with four strikeouts and no walks in 7 1/3 innings of work.
 
What's Next?
Staying in St. Louis, Illinois Wesleyan will play Concordia Chicago at 9 a.m. and face Washington U. at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 21. Then on Sunday, the Titans will meet Concordia Chicago at 11 a.m. before traveling a few miles northeast to Sauget, Ill., for a 3 p.m. game against Webster University.
