Baseball Splits Pair With Engineers

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan senior John Munyon struck out 11 to help the Titans win game one, 3-2, but Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to get a 4-3 win and a doubleheader split on Saturday afternoon, March 14, at the Corn Crib in Normal.

Illinois Wesleyan has a 3-2 record and Rose-Hulman stands 5-3 on the season. The teams will complete a four-game series with a doubleheader tomorrow at 12 p.m., also at The Corn Crib in north Normal.

Munyon scattered four hits and walked just two in picking up his first win of the year. The Titans scored two unearned runs on a throwing error in the second inning and added one more score in the fourth, before the Fightin' Engineers rallied with two runs in the seventh and final inning.  Senior Dan Truesdale was able to pitch around the threat for his second save of the season.

Junior leftfielder Adam Glogovsky and junior first baseman Matthew Mardis each had two hits in the nine-hit Titan attack in game one.

Senior Matt Hart struck out nine Engineers in 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk. Reliever Louis Acklin (0-1) absorbed the loss, working 2 2/3 innings and allowing two runs on two ground-rule doubles.

Freshman third baseman Gino Cavalieri had three singles, a walk and a run batted in for IWU and sophomore rightfielder Nick Huskisson added two hits with a double. Sophomore catcher Pat Mollo and Mardis also had two-base hits in the game.
