ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Four Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball players reached double-figure points in a 76-67 neutral court victory over Illinois College in the consolation game of the Midwest Challenge hosted by Washington U. on Sunday, Nov. 29.
The Titans picked up their third win of the season after dropping their previous two games and are 3-2 overall while the Lady Blues are also 3-2.
Trailing 13-8 with 4:32 left in the first quarter, Illinois Wesleyan closed out the quarter on a 16-4 run to take a 24-17 lead. The Lady Blues outscored the Titans 16-13 in the second frame to put the score at 37-33 heading into halftime. IWU would again outscore Illinois College by seven points in the opening quarter of a half by a 25-17 score to take a 62-51 lead after three quarters and held on in the final 10 minutes of action for the 76-67 victory.
Sophomore
Rebekah Ehresman found herself with double-digit points for the fifth straight game this season, scoring a game-high 18 points to go along with five rebounds and two steals. Starters
Gabby Weber (15 points) and
Molly McGraw (12 points) also scored in double figures as Weber recorded five steals while McGraw pitched in six rebounds and four assists.
Freshman
Ashley Schneider scored all 11 of her points in the second half and senior
Samantha Ellsworth had a game-high seven rebounds.
IWU went to the line 30 times in the game, making 22 shots from the charity stripe (73.3%) and scored 44 of their 76 points in the paint. The Titans forced 31 Lady Blue turnovers leading to 33 points while committing 21 turnovers of their own resulting in 14 Illinois College points.
What's Next?Illinois Wesleyan has a mid-week contest at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 7:30 ET. The Fightin' Engineers are 3-1 this season after losing for the first time this season to Marietta on Sunday by a score of 57-50.
