BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – After splitting the first two sets, the No. 23-ranked Illinois Wesleyan volleyball won the last two sets to down visiting DePauw in four sets (25-22, 16-25, 25-23, and 25-19) in the Barker Chevrolet Classic IV Tournament at the Shirk Center on Friday, Oct. 30. IWU picked up their 21st win of the season to improve to 21-7 overall while the visiting Tigers slipped to 16-9.
Freshman
Tyler Brown led all players with 16 kills and added 17 defensive digs while sophomore
Anne Cummings added nine kills. Senior
Mary Rankin contributed 22 digs, which led the Titans and
Kyleigh Block added 15 digs to go with six kills. Freshman
Leah Seielstad and junior
Colleen Rynne paced IWU with 21 and 20 set assists each.
IWU had a .208 attack percentage for the match including a blistering .405 in the first set while limiting DePauw to a .166 attack percentage for the match. The Tigers held an 8-3 advantage in blocks but were guilty of 12 service errors compared to only six for the Titans.
What's Next? IWU closes out the regular season with two matches in the Barker Chevrolet Classic IV Tournament on Saturday. The Titans take on Hiram College at 10 a.m. before tangling with Concordia (Wis.) at 2 p.m.
Notes: 21 wins is the most the Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team has posted in a season since 2006 team went 24-12 overall.
