Titans Defeat Augustana 3-0 in CCIW Opener

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – First half goals by Drake Leary and Dino Karas paced the Illinois Wesleyan soccer team a 3-0 victory over visiting Augustana at Neis Soccer Field on Saturday, October 3.

In the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin opener for both teams, the Titans improved to 4-4-2 overall while the Vikings slipped to 3-8-1 overall. The win marks the fourth straight victory for IWU over Augustana dating back to the 2011 season.

Leary found the back of the net in the opening minutes of the game (2:23) before a Mason Maier pass would lead to a Karas goal 17 minutes later (19:53) to put the Titans up 2-0 before Augustana could even put a shot on goal.

Ill. Wesleyan picked up where they left in the second half, finding the back of the net in the 50th minute (49:51) when Mitch Billimack took a Leary pass to make the score 3-0 in favor of IWU.

Goalies Erick Eklin and Craig Kym split time in net for the Titans, each playing one half. Both Eklin and Kym wound up making two saves each.
