Volleyball Wins Two Three-Set Saturday Matches

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team got back to the .500 mark for the season with a pair of three-set wins on Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Barker Chevrolet Classic II in the Shirk Center.

IWU (now 7-7) downed Anderson, 25-19, 25-12, 25-23, in the morning match before outplaying Dominican, 26-24, 25-22, 25-23, in the afternoon.

"Today our team executed our game plan and stayed disciplined," said IWU head coach Kim Nelson-Brown. "The whole team played with a lot of energy and fight. It was exciting to win both (matches) today and get back on the winning track heading into our conference opener on Wednesday."

Freshman Kyleigh Block was named to the all-tournament team, along with Peyton McKenzie of Aurora, Riley Troyer of Anderson, Christina Wilson of Dominican, Emma Recker of Lincoln Christian and Jessica  Galotta of St. Xavier.

Block and sophomore Emily Knowles led the Titans with 12 kills each against Anderson (6-9), while senior Maddie Greybar and freshmen Maisy Bowden and Anne Cummings each had seven kills.Kills.
Sophomore Colleen Rynne had 23 set assists and sophomore Lizzy Hawk added 17 with a team-high eight digs. Block and Greybar each had seven digs and junior Mary Rankin had five.

In the win against Dominican (9-6), Greybar had a team-best nine kills and Cummings had seven.
Rynne had 20 assists and Hawk had 12. Block paced IWU with 13 digs while Rynne, Rankin and Greybar each had 12 defensive digs.

What's Next?
Illinois Wesleyan opens its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin season on Wednesday, Sept. 24, with a 7 p.m. match at Augustana.
