MOLINE, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team collected 17 hits in a 12-4 win over Augustana in the second day of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin postseason tournament at Moline, Ill., on Friday, May 9.

The Titans improved to 23-17 and will play next at 12 p.m. Saturday, May 10, against North Central (26-14). The No. 4-seed Cardinals eliminated No. 1 seed Augustana Friday night by an 8-4 score and now would have to beat IWU twice Saturday to keep Illinois Wesleyan from securing the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III postseason tournament.

Against Augustana, Illinois Wesleyan scored two in the second, added single runs in the third and fourth with two more in the fifth, four in the seventh and two more in the eighth. Leading the hit parade for IWU was second baseman Jarrod Juskiewicz, who had two home runs, two singles, drove in four and scored four times. Junior designated hitter Tim Coonan and sophomore rightfielder Adam Glogovsky each had three hits, while senior centerfielder Jon Frericks, catcher Pat Mollo and junior shortstop Derek Idstein each had two hits.
Coonan, Glogovsky, Idstein, Frericks and sophomore third baseman Matthew Mardis all had doubles.

Junior starter John Munyon (3-1) got the win as he went 6 2/3 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on 10 hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

NOTES: Bobby Czarnowski has 206 career hits and ranks No. 7 all-time at IWU and Frericks has 203 career knocks and is No. 9 ... Senior pitcher Jeff Johnson, the starter in game one of the tourney, is No. 6 all-time at IWU with 183 career strikeouts ... Munyon, today's starter, is tied for third at IWU with nine career saves ... If Illinois Wesleyan would get the NCAA automatic bid, it would be the fifth straight, 12th overall and ninth appearance in the last 11 years in the national tournament ... Illinois Wesleyan, the Division III national champions in 2012, has a record of 24-22 in NCAA play ... This year's seniors would follow last year's as the second class ever at IWU to have made the NCAA tournament in all of their college seasons.
