Box Score 2014 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Baseball Tourney WebsiteMOLINE, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team built up an early lead and held on to secure an 8-5 win over North Park in the first day of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin postseason tournament at Moline, Ill., on Thursday, May 8.
The Titans improved to 22-17 and will play next at 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 9, against tournament host and No. 1 seed Augustana. The Vikings (30-10) were 6-3 winners over North Central in the tourney's opening game. North Central will meet North Park in an elimination game at 12 p.m. Friday.
Illinois Wesleyan scored two in the first and two in the second, added a single run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to hold an 8-1 lead.
North Park scored four runs in the seventh inning to close to within three at 8-5.
Sophomore rightfielder
Adam Glogovsky got four hits to lead an 11-hit IWU attack. Senior leftfielder
Bobby Czarnowski had two hits (with a double) along with junior shortstop
Derek Idstein and senior centerfielder
Jon Frericks added a solo home run and drove in three runs.
Senior starter
Jeff Johnson (6-2) went seven innings and allowed four earned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts.
Dan Truesdale worked a scoreless eighth inning and
Robert Romano earned a save wth a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
